From Hryhorii Skovoroda to Modernity: Slobidshchyna Becomes Part of the MFA's Global Art Project

Each region is represented through its key cultural and historical symbols — from architectural landmarks and prominent figures to scientific innovations. The visual concept was created by the renowned Ukrainian artists, the Feldman Sisters, while historian Oleksandr Fedoryshen served as the scientific consultant for historical accuracy.

This large-scale art project was presented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine together with the NGO Port of Culture, supported by the European External Action Service (EEAS).

Every piece of this puzzle carries an immense cultural and historical weight, inviting viewers to look closely, admire, and take pride in our heritage.

The puzzle format was chosen as an apt metaphor for the integrity and inviolability of state sovereignty. Each region contributes its own unique touch, but only together do they form a unified and indivisible picture of Ukraine.

The project has evolved into an international diplomatic platform: the Puzzle of Unity installation has already been successfully presented at the EEAS headquarters in Brussels, as well as in the United States, Canada, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, and Chile. By the end of 2026, the art project is scheduled to open in three more countries worldwide.

In parallel with the physical installation at the MFA building, an international awareness campaign is underway on the official Ukraine.ua pages and social media platforms of Ukrainian diplomatic missions abroad.

As part of this initiative, diplomatic missions are introducing the world to each of the 20 cultural symbols in detail. You can explore lesser-known pages of our heritage and follow the project on social media using the hashtag #PuzzleOfUnity.
